'Cake Boss' recap: Buddy, Cousin Anthony fist pump for Snooki

Episode 20: "Snooki, Super Anthony and a Ship"

You know Carlo's Bakery is going somewhere when it is graced by the presence of Snooki of "The Jersey Shore."

She wanted a cake for her mom's birthday, but it needed pizzazz because as she said, her mom is very conservative. So Snooki requested to have a bit of herself in it somehow — selfless daughter indeed.

Cousin Anthony and younger cousin, Buddy, were starstruck by the new client, and tried impressing her. It was obvious that no one at the bakery watches "The Jersey Shore" as Snooki made references about her poof, GTL-ing, and fist pumping gorillas that no one could decipher upon first mention.

She seemed almost taken aback when she requested that her signature poof be somehow incorporated into her mom's cake, and Buddy just stared clueless.

A rectangular base followed by two little round tiers next to each other were used to resemble two different cakes in one. One side was Snooki's and the opposing was her mom's. Snooki's part of the cake was a cool blue, with a mini-she, done by Ralphie, who had no idea of the hair poof either, and was surrounded by shirtless, buffed up "guidos" on the brown-sugared beach.

Snooki's mom's side was neon green, with piping flowers and miniature flower pots, along with a sculpture of her as a gardener.

I believe this was the first time cherry filling with real cherries was used.

Do I recall Buddy at some point express discontent with everything "The Jersey Shore" represents for Italian-Americans? Yet here he was taking orders from the "guidette" and teaching Ralphie how to fist pump. He only mentioned how he didn't like the term "guido" but shrugged it off as part of the normal talk at the shore.

On to our second cake, which was really the first one introduced in the show. Clients at South Street Seaport in New York City asked for a different kind of ship cake in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the S.S. Normandie luxury liner. They didn't just want a replica of the ship. Instead, they wanted the cake to exhibit what was found inside the ship.

Buddy highlighted what he found to be memorable, and made a four-tiered white cake with twisted fondant to resemble roping to go around each tier.

One of the few items saved after the ship was destroyed in 1942 was the grand wheel. So Buddy decided to make a giant, brown wheel on top of the cake that actually spun. It was molded out of PVC pipes with the help of strongman Mauro. I do have to point out that Buddy failed to give credit to him, saying that he himself got it to work after failing at making a large wheel the first time.

The front part of the ship was also made, out of Rice Krispies treats and placed next to the cake. Badges, anchors, art decor from the dining tapestry, captain caps, and tiny French butlers decorated the vanilla and chocolate ganache cake.

The museum folks were pleasantly stunned by Buddy's keen sense of detail.

Back to Snooki's visit. By now, Anthony isn't shy to make a fool out of himelf, asking to hang out sometime. Snooki commented on how he was pale, a huge turnoff for the queen of baking under the sun. He decided to "upgrade" his look, getting a makeover by the girls at the bakery to suit Snooki's taste in juiced up men, or as she calls them "gorillas."

What did the makeover include? A black muscle tee, a terrible spray-on tan, and an Italian flag belt buckle that was reversed, resembling the Mexican flag. All that heavy cake lifting does provide results, though, as Anthony showed off his guns, and midriff to Snooki. And she approved by offering to stand near him and pose for pictures.

One of the first things Snooki noticed when presented with the cake was the molding of herself.

At the end, we hear her pale mom speak, saying how grateful she is of the cake especially after her daughter failed to see her at Mother's Day. Sounds like there's some personal drama there.

Snooki Takes the Cake

Monday's new Cake Boss episode opens with Buddy venturing to the Seaport Museum on the South Street Port along the East River. The museum operators, Mary and Bill, want Buddy to make a cake honoring the 75th anniversary of the Normandie, a famous oceangoing passenger liner during the 1930s.

The two take Buddy on a tour. The museum features many artifacts rescued from the Normandie before it burned in 1942, and Buddy is impressed. "It was like the boat to be on if you were traveling across the Atlantic," he says.

Buddy sees the ship's steering wheel and instantly he has the centerpiece of his cake design.

?"I want this big giant wheel coming out the top of the cake," he says.

So the gang gets to work on the boat cake, made out of vanilla, chocolate mousse and French raspberries.? Buddy explains that it will be round and multi-tiered, and will be adorned with tapestries, artwork, roping and other nautical themes inspired by the ship. He even wants to find room to represent "the little French butler guys."

While this is going on, Buddy mentions that he's expecting "a real interesting client:" Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi from the MTV reality show The Jersey Shore. The term client, in fact, might actually be the most respectable description anyone has ever given about her.

Snooki sits down, wearing a low-cut top and a trucker hat featuring a white bird eating what looks like an apple off a tree. Just then Anthony—poor, lovelorn Anthony—comes around the corner and introduces himself.

Anthony says to Snooki, "my little cousin and I have a bet going. He thinks that you would choose him over me."

"He's probably right," she nods. The cousin is like 12.

Snooki gives Anthony the look-over and asks, do you go tanning?

Anthony says no, and Snooki says she can tell, advising him to go tanning. A surprisingly nimble flirt, Anthony quickly retorts, "maybe you can take me," and Snooki says, "yeah, we'll do GTL." But Anthony doesn't know what that means (going to the gym, tanning salon and laundry every day). Gotta stalk, or at least do some research on the girl first, pal. Snooki explains the acronym while giving Anthony a look like he broke a bottle and spilled good Stoli all over the floor.

Just as Anthony is asking Snooki what she does on the weekends (she goes out, she says) Buddy walks in and chases poor Anthony away.

So now Snooki meets Buddy. Not since Edison phoned Woodrow Wilson have the two most important New Jersey icons collaborated like this.

She wants to make a cake to celebrate her ma. Buddy asks about her, and Snooki says the two are nothing alike, so we take that to mean Mama Snooki is usually sober. With that theme in mind, Snooki wants a cake with two halves that will represent both of them. So gardening on one side, and guido on the other.

"Have you heard of my poof?" she asks. Buddy is reluctant to answer, as this is a family show.

Snooki explains that the poof is her signature hairstyle, and Buddy understands. He says that not only did he go to the Shore and dance clubs when he was Snooki's age, but that he and his friends probably invented the fist pump.

Snooki says that Buddy should party with her and her friends, but Buddy says with the kids those days are over. But he puts in a good word for Anthony.

"He's pale," Snooki says. Man, that guy can't catch a break.

She leaves, and we then see Buddy working on a cake for her that includes cherries, custard and whipped cream.

Then, after a transition, we see Buddy stuck on how to make the wheel for the Normandie cake. He's shaping some delicious PVC pipe, but it's not enough.

"This is a big boat, we need a big wheel," he exclaims. Buddy is aggravated.

Eventually with the help of Danny they get the right size. They cover it in modeling chocolate and add details. It looks just like an old fashioned steering wheel.

Meanwhile, Buddy has his sculptors work on tanned, muscular male dolls - gorillas, for the Snooki cake. The dolls are shirtless and have obscenely disproportionate-sized nipples. Buddy comes over and teaches the sculptors how to fist pump, while techno music plays in the background. They can't do it, which is disappointing since fist-pumping sounds self-explanatory.

Buddy walks away saying, "make sure you do Snooki and her Moms good."

Danny covers the cake with white fondant, while Buddy begins the coloring and attaches flowers.

Rob, the sculptor, is working on the Snooki cake. The most important thing about her, Buddy explains, is her poof. We don't know if he's talking about the cake Snooki or the real one. Either way, Rob is having trouble.

Alongside of this, Buddy gathers the team for the last stages of the Normandie cake. Lindsey is tasked with working on those little French butler guys.

Rob, who works in a bakery but for some reason is dressed like a stockbroker, gets a primer on poofs and is ready to get back to doing Snooki good.

Buddy adds the art pieces on the Normandie cake, including the little French butlers. When it's all done, Buddy steps back and salutes the cake.

Buddy and Anthony deliver the cake to the museum and are welcomed by a cheering crowd. Wonderful and amazing, Bill and Mary say. Mary notices the bellmen: the little French butler guys.

The wheel turns, while Buddy asks the happy crowd, "who wants to eat some cake?"

Later, Anthony asks Buddy what he thinks of his look, and Buddy makes fun of him. But Buddy arranges a makeover for Anthony with the girls. "He needs some color," they say.

As Buddy is showing the crew the finished Snooki cake, Anthony returns with slicked back hair, a black wifebeater (good muscle on that guy) and an Italian flag belt buckle. Danny tells him the flag is upside down.

Buddy looks him over and says "Maybe Snooki will like you."

Buddy delivers the cake (and Anthony) to Snooki. Snooki, her Mom and guests love the cake. Snooki says her favorite part is the gorillas. Then Buddy calls over Anthony.

Snooki, impressed, says she's proud of Anthony for changing his look. "But you still gotta hit the tanning bed," she says.

Buddy begins serving cake, while the credits roll. "She did a really good thing for her Mom," he says of Snooki. "And for me that's what it's all about: familigia."

And for some us, poofs.

Snooki Takes the Cake

No one ever wants to find a hair in their dessert, but for Cake Boss Buddy Valastro's latest celebrity client, it was a requirement. Jersey Shore's Snooki requested a cake for her beloved mother complete with a facsimile of her famous sky-high bouffant, as well as some fist-pumping club-goers. "She wanted the poof on it," laughs Valastro, who designed half of the cherry cake for Snooki's conservative mom and the other for her flamboyant daughter. "It's kind of a Jekyll and Hyde cake."

Snooki, however, was far from a monster. "She is such a sweetheart. And what a great family! She wanted to come on Cake Boss to show how tight-knit they are," says Valastro, who has no problem with Shore's depiction of his ethnic roots. "A lot of people take it more literally than I do," he says. "I look at it as entertainment."

In fact, Valastro — a Jersey Shore partier in his youth — would love to appear on the show. "It'd be like a throwback episode. I could try to squeeze into a pair of my old Cavaricci's and go out with my buddies!" Now that'd be a Situation.

Snooki was literally the icing on the cake on last night's special episode of the TLC show Cake Boss.

The pint-sized Jersey Shore star was immortalized in chocolate and icing as part of a special birthday cake that she ordered for her mother.

And it wasn't just Snooki that got the sugary treatment - some shirtless, fist pumping Guidos were included along with a little effigy of her mother herself, Helen.

Bakers at Carlos Bakery in Hoboken, New Jersey, which features in the popular weekly reality show, recreated Snooki perfectly.

Made in chocolate to recreate her dark mahogany tan and with her signature hair 'poof' in place, dressed in a low cut black mini dress and a designer handbag slung over her shoulder, the mini version was the perfect homage to the Jersey Shore star.

The show's stars, cousin Anthony and younger cousin, Buddy, were starstruck by the new client, and tried their very hardest to impress her.

For her part, Snooki flirted shamelessly throughout the show, as well as trying to educate the Cake Boss cast about the fineries of the Jersey Shore mantra, GTL (Gym, Tanning, Laundry).

But the team did Snooki proud with their end result, reducing the outspoken and controversial star to tears of laughter.

'Cake Boss' -- 'Jersey Shore's' Snooki Appears, Causes a ...

'Jersey Shore's' Snooki is everywhere these days, so why not have her on top of a cake as well? It seems that Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi failed to remember Mother's Day. So she tried to apologize to her mom on the new 'Cake Boss' (Mon., 9PM ET on TLC).

The 'Cake Boss' shop is located in Hoboken, New Jersey -- not the shore. Still, maybe the fellow "Garden State" residents could solve the family drama.

Buddy Valastro and his team tried to make Snooki happy -- which included letting the reality star flirt with Buddy's cousin Anthony. Upon meeting Anthony, Snooki found the young man to be severely untanned. She suggested that he needed a heavy dose of "GTL" -- that's "gym, tan and laundry" for you 'Jersey Shore' newbies.

Anthony took Snooki's advice to heart. When the 'Cake Boss' team brought the dessert for Snooki's make-up event, he looked like a man transformed. Anthony was newly tanned, newly buff, and was sporting a "Guido-appropriate" outfit -- including a tank top and gold chain.

Snooki was pleased that her flirting had worked out. Hopefully, her mom was pleased with the "I'm Sorry" cake -- it was topped with a replica of her daughter in all her tall-bouffanted glory. (By the way, we can neither confirm nor deny that "Snooks" missed Mother's Day because she was drunk. But she seemed pretty tipsy during the cake-related party. We're just saying ... )

TLC’s hit series ‘Cake Boss’ returns Monday, October 11, 2010 at 9:00 p.m., for a special one hour episode.   During the special episode ‘Familia, Fishing and Family History, the Valastros travel to Italy and while there, Buddy is asked to specifically make a cake for his cousin who is getting married.   Of course, the request is picky and he is to make a seven tier wedding cake.

The Valastros time in Italy isn’t all work, however.  Buddy finds time to go fishing with his son and is determined to catch enough fish for the entire family or ‘familia.’  During this episode home movies will be shown and it will give the fans a closer look at Buddy Valastro, his roots and heritage.

There will be a special visit from Jersey Shore’s Snooki, as well.

"Jersey Shore"'s Snooki pays a visit to TLC's "Cake Boss" in an all-new episode, and she has an unusual request for the master baker.

"Have you heard of my poof?" Snooki asks Buddy 'Cake Boss' Valastro as she orders a cake for her mother. "I wear this big poof on my head, it's kind of like my trademark, so I would like to have that on my cake. And maybe some fist-pumping arms coming out?"

The Cake Boss discloses that he's fist-pumped in his day, and even demonstrates his skills for Snooki, adding that he's pretty sure that he and his buddies invented the fist-pump.
