'Cake Boss' to crown winner of 'Next Great Baker' competition

Hoboken City Council will host a public hearing on the city's rent control ordinance, as reported by The Jersey Journal.

Hoboken is the latest entity in line to file for "intervenor status" which would give them legal legs to challenge the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on the Spectra Energy natural gas pipeline if necessary, the Journal reported.

Buddy Valastro, Hoboken's "Cake Boss," will crown the winner of his reality competition show "Cake Boss: Next Great Baker" tonight at 9 p.m. on TLC.

'Cake Boss' bakery in Hoboken gets a 'royal' visitor

New Jersey's own 2009 Cherry Blossom Princes Naimah Terry arrived at the bakery this morning on official business: to pick up 100 chocolate vanilla and vanilla fudge cupcakes for the New Jersey State Society's annual holiday party in Washington, D.C. tonight.

"It's a big New Jersey network of all the movers and shakers in D.C. and their staff," said Terry, 22, a recent Rutgers grad and lifelong Jersey City resident - until recently when she moved to Newark.

Although her duties as Cherry Blossom Princess ended in April, Terry maintains strong ties to the society and was charged with bringing the cupcakes which were donated by the bakery.

Terry is also a sometime fan of the popular TLC reality series shot at the Hoboken bakery.

"I'm a big jersey fan, so you gotta show love (for "Cake Boss")," she said.

Hoboken baker's name not unique.

HOBOKEN, N.J. - New Jersey's most famous cake maker won't have to change his name after all.

An agreement has been reached between a Seattle software company and the Learning Channel, which carries the reality series Cake Boss, featuring Carlo's City Hall Bakery in Hoboken.

A federal judge in Washington state had temporarily barred the show from using the name.

Masters Software of Seattle has been selling business software for bakery owners called CakeBoss since 2007, before the show started.

An attorney for Masters told the Jersey Journal that under an agreement between the parties, "Cake Boss" Buddy Valastro can use the name on the show and Masters can still use it for its software and other items.

It's another piece of good news for Valastro, who is expecting a fourth child in February with his wife, Lisa, according to a report last week in People.

Fans of Cake Boss can look forward to seeing the drama of the pregnancy, which will serve as a story line next season, the magazine reported. The child will be the couple's fourth.

Carlo's Bakery makes cakes to order that look like gigantic chocolate footballs, or car-tire sized pizzas, or even a dog lying on its owner's lap.

The Lackawanna Center, an eight-story industrial building outside the Holland Tunnel, was transformed yesterday into the set of a future "Cake Boss" episode as politicos, bankers, developers and real estate agents gathered to welcome the famed baker to his new home in Jersey City. Nine years after the Sept. 11th attacks on the World Trade Center, Hoboken is unveiling conceptual drawings for a proposed 9/11 memorial. Mayor Dawn Zimmer expects it to be completed next year in time for the 10th anniversary.

Buddy Valastro Cake

Buddy Valastro is an accomplished fourth generation baker born into the business owned and operated by his parents. He was born in Hoboken, NJ and raised in an old fashioned Italian family.

Today, Buddy is an accomplished master baker and cake decorator and star of the hit TLC reality show Cake Boss. He's often asked to demonstrate, compete, and teach his craft around the country. In his 10,000 sq foot state of the art facility, Buddy and his staff turn out thousands of wedding cakes, specialty cakes, and pastries weekly. His award winning designs have been featured numerous times in different bridal and baking magazines. Carlo’s Bakery has also been featured in books, newspapers, such as, The New York Times, and television; most namely The Food Network. He and his cakes have also been featured on The Today’s Show, Good Morning America, The View, and HBO’s hit series, The Sopranos.
